Table Talk on Tuesday

2-5 nl at MS. Three lags at the table. What is it about Tuesday nights that brings out the wolves? Of course, the big superstack even at the Sun started on Wed.

I posted a straddle, but intended to make it my last hand of the night. I have 450$
utg +1 limps with only 80$ behind. folded to lag on button with 600$ he raises to 55$ all fold.

I find black 10s in the straddle, I call, utg calls with his 25$ behind...

Flop Q 9 2. I donk for 100$, utg calls, button calls. oh brother.

Turn is low card. I don't like how this hand is playing out but I didn't want to give a free card to AK or a str8 draw or whatever wild hand he could have.

I bet 150$, and he says "Well, I guess you have me but I think we'll just put the rest of it in."

I insta-folded. I wonder if I should have pretended to think about it, or grabbed my turn bet back and sprinted out of the room.

River 8. LAG turns over a set of 9s and limper mucked. SHould I have counter blasted pf??

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

- A few hands hands later The Lag (A) opens for 25 from late position. I look down at AJo and shove all in over the top. Now I get to give a speech "Well, send me home." He said 'you probably got me' and called with KJo. Got me a trip to double upsville, and more importantly went off tilt from the 1010 hand.

- A half hour later, that took on lag B. B raised to 30 and A called. Flop Qc Qd Jd. check, B bets 200$ (full moon I think) A check raises all in for about $1,000 total.

B thinks about it and then calls with black AA. To his dismay the board comes Qc Qd Jd Jc 10d.

A shakes his head, flashes the 6d and mucks and leaves, B finished his 3 hour session with about $3.2k in his stack.

Gotta be the full moon.

Money I Didn't Need to Lose

One recurring problem is that I make a plan and then can't follow through with it. Commonly a situation where I decide I'll fold to more action morphs into a call and pray plan.

FW 1/2 nl. Table is very prone to pre-flop overbetting, there is a european guy on my right with over 1,,000$ that overbets a lot with rags but isn't in this hand.

A few limps, the "hijack" raises to 20$, euro folds, I look down at JJ on the button. The pfr seems to be a typical young player who learned on the net, so I don't know too much yet. He has about 400, I have about 250$. I call, one of the limpers calls.

Flop 64$. 10 4 5, two diamonds, I have the Jd. check, he bets 45$ and I??

don't like it. the problem with this huge pfr game is that you feel commited on the flop. I guess you can sit around and wait for big hands but there is a time charge and the game was pretty F%ing slow.

I min raised to 90$, the limper folds. My plan was to raise to gain information.

The kid stares me down and starts talking and joking. I tried to keep a str8 face but I couldn't. I let loose a giggle and said "cut it out". Me being happy was supposed to make him think that I had a set, it didn't.

He shoves all in. An over pair of JJ is not very good in this situation and the plan was to fold.

But: 64$ preflop, +90 from both of us on the flop, + 150ish more to put me all in = 394$ vs my 150 to call. 2.6:1 hmmm, I guess the odds were roughly what I eyeballed them at, I am bad at doing math at the table.

But 2.6:1 isn't much when you probably have 2 outs. I didn't have to pay that last bet but I did.

He had QQ. and won. as it came 4, K.

Calling down the flop doesn't change much. I should have stuck with my plan of jettisoning to a 3rd raise.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I went on tilt after that, somewhat. I rebought and two hands later I called a 17$ raise pf with 9h7h, (6 way) and then called off another 240$ with a str8-flush draw, Jh 10h 4c board against someone with a black AJ. blank-blank I mucked without showing and everyone thought I was a donkey for calling so quickly when I couldn't beat top pair. I fled in disgrace.

Cold Deck?

I was in Mohegan in a 7 handed must move 2-5 trying to get to the table that had money. Unfortunately, it was freezing in there, unsure if it was the AC or the outdoor walls. As a result, most of the the players were holding their hands tight and not much action.

that room gets everything wrong.

Folded to cutoof who open limps. I raise to 20$ with K10s, she calls. I bought in for 230.

Flop 45$ 10 9 2 rainbow.

She leads for 35$. I have no reads so I call.

Turn 115$. (10 9 2) Q. She leads 45$ I hate this card because I really though she could have a str8 draw with over cards. I call.

River 205$. 5 blanky. She leads 45$. I can't be good but I don't like a fold and call. She has Q10, for 2 pair.

It may have been cold in there but I was really steaming after that.

Didn't Plan on Flopping Quads.

I have to reconstruct this hand as my notes are disorganized.

2/5 nlhe at Foxwoods. Table is tight and stable.

I limped 77 from middle position. a couple more limps, the asian gal in the sb with an I-pod raised to 30. I called but the limpers behind me folded. I think this was Harrington's fault. We each had around 350 in our stacks.

flop 7 K 7. rainbow She bet 50 and I froze like a deer in headlights who just flopped quads. I had been planning on playing a set carefully or slowly folding. Quads weren't part of the planning.

I called. Turn was a 9 and she checked. I checked right behind.

River was a low card. No flush draws or anything. She bet 50, I raised to 150 because I didn't think she had top pair or anything. She thought a while and folded.

I don't think there was much of a chance of making money from what was probably her missed big cards or medium pair. If she got away from AK then I salute her. I do need to have some type of idea what I am going to do, I think the flop call was fine but am not sure about the rest.

A Quick Loser's Rant

I lost 70 big bets at 20/40 last night. Ugh, I am going to cry if I ever get rehydrated. They wouldn't fold... and I sometimes paid them off. such as:

utg raises, she is a strange player. mp cold calls. I 3-bet with KsKh from the button. sb calls, they call.

4 players 12 sbs

Flop. Jh 10h 4c. They check, I bet, 3 calls.

Turn 7.5 bbs. 4h. They check. I bet, sb calls, utg check raises. mp folds. I call with my questionable 2 pair and K high flush draw. Sb tanks then calls.

River 13.5 bbs. 6d. sb checks, utg bets, I call, sb thinks then folds.

She had Q4s in spades. No, there weren't any spades on the flop.

Same Theme: BRAG POST

2-5nl at Mohegan Sun.

I seem to be posting a lot about nl cash games. This is because I am still unfamiliar with them while the flow of limit hold'em seems to be worn into my brain after 3 years of regular play. I seem to feel intuitively that I am not playing nl correctly. Not that I play limit great, but there aren't as many interesting hands.

Or situations like this one.

I am on my way home to New Hampshire. Stop by at the Sun with 200$ left in my wallet. I make my usual short stack buy into 2-5 and resolveto wait for a real strong spot. While I am waiting, I notice that one guy is all over the place with his bets and he is thoroughly inebriated. I skip my blind and go to the atm and take $ out and come back with a full 500$ buy in.

I post behind and the drunk guy opens for 45$. I see KJs and call. The small blind shoves all in for his last 185 total. The drunk calls, I am not enthusiastic but decide I have great implied odds in the empty side pot.

Flop 6 6 4. Two spades and none of my suit. sigh. We both check.

Turn Jc. Out of the corner of my eye I see the small blind wince at the card. The drunk moves all in, having me covered. I called. River is a deuce. Drunk moans and flashes 10 3. Honestly, I don't remember if he had a flush draw or not, I don't think so because he would have jammed the flop probably. The small blind mucked and said he had a pair, which was probably tens or 9s. How he instantly knew the J had killed him, I have no clue.

I counted the pot at 1185, the largest of my career. I am happy of course, but at the same time rather disappointed that after these years there has been nothing bigger. I don't think I have won any of those 10 way capped mega pots during my occasional shots at 20-40 yet.
