My Weakness. 2-5 nl

I was playing 2-5 at noon on a weekday, mostly to get signed in before lunch. The table can see that I do not belong in this game. None of my flop bets are getting called because they believed that I would not be betting without a hand.

So I pick up QQ utg. I limped to keep the weak image up. I have 350 and most people cover me. The player on my left raises to 30 and everyone folds. He wears dark glasses and is a stone killer. I heard him talking about the 5-10 nl game with some of his friends at the table.

I called and planned to c/r a flop without overs...

Flop A 7 8 rainbow. Yuck. I checked, he bet 35 and I called. pot = $135

Turn 7. I check and he checks rather quickly. Not sure what this means.

River K. I check quickly and he quickly bet 150 and I folded.

I don't belong in that game. I think his turn check may have been for pot control but I don't have a clue wtf his river blast meant. He can't really be value betting a decent ace can he? Would he expect me to call without an ace? I think he either had a very strong hand or a bluff. then again, if he had like pocket tens would he seriously try to bet me off whatever I had there? I just don't belong in that game.

I finished up 200$ after 90 minutes because I got dealt very good cards. I never showed down a single hand, showdowns are rarer at the 2-5 nl. As I said, the regs seemed to know what I had and never called my flop bets except when I was betting a draw, (they folded when the draw would get there).

Can't Seem to Stop Being Pissy

I make rude comments and wind up raising with weak hands. Maybe I have to stop playing until the morning starts. I've also violated my promise to myself not to drink alcohol repeatedly. My meanness usually starts many hours after last call though. Probably the hangover setting in.

Lost about 200 in 5/10 and 1/2 nl this morning while waiting to sign in for the new day. Last 80$ when I raised A4 from the button on a steal and paid 80$ to the cutoff who had limped in with AQ. He made small bets of course. I finished down 300 tonight but it would have been 500 if the 1/2 guys had bet what I was willing to call.

Could I have gotten away from J3?

To inaugurate this blog: How Deadmoney stacked off with J3s.

So I was up last night until I called off about 250$ with J3 of spades. I would rather have folded that. It was 1/2 nl holdem and I straddled. There was a raise to 12$ so I was getting decent odds on the preflop call (8:68ish). On the flop of 9s 8s 7c I had a flush draw and a gutshot.

Against the 2 guys I was getting roughly 2:1 on the call, it cost me about three calls totaling 230$ to reach the showdown. They had a set of 8s and 10-9s in clubs respectively. I called, the set of 8s won as he deserved to.

My first ever pokerstove (I'm a late bloomer) gave my equity at 31%. It was pretty much an even money decision in hindsight when I knew what they had. No image could be gained since I was going to leave soon anyway.

However I 'm not proud of it. I need to make money, not justify even money bets after the fact. I also think that if I spread out their ranges to include larger flush draws then it becomes a much worse call. But actually it would be the calls because the betting was staggered and each individual bet seemingly offered good pot odds. There I go justifying again.

Back Again

Yes, google/blogger/Deadmoneywalking have finally got our act together. I think that I would like to use this blog to record nuts and bolts of my poker play, mostly traditional poker content while my life blog will stay at deadmonywalking.livejournal.com
